| Multiple Circuit Sequenced 20 AMP Power Distribution System with Remote Control Capability |
|
This four circuit blend between the CQ Series and the Juice Goose PD-1 is a workhorse. Its compact design fits in the back of a rack and adds four sequenced twenty amp circuits for a full 80 amps of remote power control. The CQ-PD1-4 is designed to be wired directly to a breaker panel. It then connects and operates just like any CQ Series model.
It's easy to install. The CQ-PD1-4 is designed with an external wire harness and optional flexible conduit, so no internal hook-up is required.
All CQ Series products feature multiple pairs of power outputs, Power Pods(TM), which are turned on every 2 seconds. Equipment to be powered plugs directly into the CQ device. All CQ models have the ability to transmit a sequence command to another CQ unit or to receive a remote sequence command from another CQ unit or from an RC5 Remote Control/Monitor accessory or any contact closure. In this way, any CQ Series product can be a master or slave unit.
A power sequencing system can be built from several CQ Series products which can be selected depending on the specific requirements of a particular installation: number and location of circuits, current (amps) requirement of circuit, number of control locations, number of sequence events. Select only the specific CQ Series products to meet a specific requirement.
The time delay between sequence events is 2 seconds, controlled by the CQ Series software. The order in which powered equipment is turned on depends on which Pod that equipment is plugged into and where that Pod is located relative to the entire CQ system.
REMOTE OPERATION
CQ DEVICES - Any CQ device can act as a remote controller and operate in concert with other CQ devices. Each can be a master or a slave unit. Any number of CQ devices can be connected in a daisy chain fashion.
REMOTE CONTACT CLOSURE - As an alternative, to control the sequencing function, the Signal Input for the first CQ device can be connected to a latching contact closure. Juice Goose recommends a single pole double throw device in order to maintain one of two required contacts. Computer controlled devices such as those produced by AMX will also work. RC-5 KEY SWITCH - The RC-5 connects directly to the Signal Input port on the CQ product. It controls and monitors the CQ system functions.
SEQUENCE SWITCH - Without a contact closure on the Signal Input the switch on the CQ chassis will control its operation. This switch has three positions: Sequence Up, Sequence Down and Manual On. The Sequence Up and Down positions will activate the sequence process for that CQ unit and cause it to activate any units connected to the Signal Output port. In the unlikely event of a failure of a particular CQ unit, the Manual On switch position allows fail-safe activation of the CQ device.(Note: the Manual On option does not provide sequencing.)
SIGNAL CONNECTIONS
All CQ products can be easily connected by way of a standard 6 wire, RJ-11 modular phone cable with secure, snap-in type connectors.
Because each CQ device has self contained power sequence circuitry, this communication link allows any CQ device to act as a power sequencer and controller to cascade activation for any number of other CQ's in a complete directed electric power activation system.
Signal connections require little installation time and are reliable because the modular nature of the signal carrier reduces the risk of miswiring. Assembly of the signal wire to the modular connectors requires use of AMP Modular Crimper Tool Model #1-231652-8, or equivalent.
The orientation of the wires is important and conforms to standards for telephone line connection. The orientation should be the same for Signal Input and Output cables. It is best to insert the cable into the first connector so that the black wire is on the left. The second connector should be attached so the black wire is on the right when viewed from the same perspective as the first.
The signal communication between the CQ units utilizes a current loop sensing system. Therefore, signal loss and external interference will not affect the reliability of the sequencing as can happen the other voltage related types of communication. Remote control and monitoring of the sequencing process can be accomplished with the RC-5 accessory which is available in either wall or rack mount models.
